Source: Greencastle Banner 2 July 1874 p 3

DIED – In Greencastle on June 30 of congestion of the stomach Rev. James Spinks, aged 52 years.  Mr. Spinks was about the city as usual on Saturday.  Sunday morning he was suddenly taken sick with vomiting which continued during the day.  Monday morning a physician was called but nothing relieved him and he died Tuesday morning at 4 o’clock.  The remains were taken to Romney, Tippecanoe County for interment.  Mr. Spinks had been for more than 20 years a minister of the ME Church but a year or two ago was put on the superannuated list in consequence of diseased eyes.  He leaves a wife and one son.  It was for the purpose of educating the latter that he moved to this city last year.
