Elwood, Ind July 1 – While leaving the tin-plate works today after finishing work on the morning turn, Orlando F. Smith, a heater was caught between coal cars and fatally crushed. In leaving the mills it was necessary for Smith to cross the switch on which the coal cars are brought into the factory and there was an opening of two feet between two of the cars. Smith’s companion, Frank Gregg passed between the cars safely but just as Smith was squarely between them the yard engine bumped into the other cars, causing them to jam together.
