SMITH, Matilda "Ida" Allen

Mrs. Matilda Smith, aged 75 years widow of Lyman Beecher Smith died at 2:30 o’clock Saturday morning at the home of her daughters, Mrs. Dan Reel of Montezuma after an extended illness of general debility. The deceased had been in poor health for the past 12 years and had been bedfast since last October. She was born in Parke County near Mansfield and was a daughter of Hirman T. Allen who was an early settler of northern Putnam County. The deceased spent her early life in Parke County and later located near Reelsville then went to Brazil from that locality about 12 years ago. For the past 3 years she had made her home with the daughter at Montezuma. The deceased is survived by three sons and two daughters, Harry J of Terre Haute; Frank O of Columbia City; Clinton M of Vincennes; Mrs. Eva Gentry of Mt. Carmel, Ill and Mrs. Verna Reel of Montezuma; also 8 grandchildren, one great grandchild; a brother and sister, Oscar Allen of St. Louis and Mrs. Kate Furney of Wenatchee, Wash. Short services were held at the home at 11:15 o’clock Monday morning followed by services at the ME Church at Reelsville at 2 o’clock in charge of the Brazil Chapter of Eastern Star of which she was a member. Interment was made at Cottage Hill cemetery.
