James E. Smith 63 years old, an iron worker died at his home, 174 Division Street about 9 o’clock yesterday evening. He had been ill with a complication of diseases for four weeks. Mr. Smith was born in England, the son of Sir Sidney Smith and Mary E. Bentley Smith He came to this country when young and had lived in New Castle a number of years. He was a member of the IOOF and of the First Methodist Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife and eight children: five daughters and three sons – they are: Mrs. George Pasters, Sidney E. Smith, Mrs. Frank Hennery, James R; Charles and Gladys of this city; Mrs. Joseph Howard of New Wilmington; Mrs. JO Brest (Best?) of Green Castle (sic), Ind. Funeral services will be held at the late home of Mr. Smith at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon and the burial will be in Oak Park cemetery.
