SMITH, Daniel T. - Putnam

Greencastle – Daniel T. Smith, 52, of Greencastle, Ind, president and board chairman of the First Citizens Bank and Trust Co in Greencastle, died Thursday Oct 8 at his home.  Mr. Smith was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge, American Legion, Windy Hill Country Club, Putnam County Realtors Association, Chamber of Commers, Greencastle Developments, Inc, Economic Developers Commission and American Institute of Banking. He served as president and treasurer of Greencastle Investment Corp and chairman of the Putnam County Finance Committee. Mr. Smith was appointed by the Ohio governor to serve on the state bank board in 1969. Born Dec 30, 1928, in Somerset, he was a son of Daniel A. and Frances Gossman Smith. Surviving are his wife, the former Lois J. Mattingly, two daughters, Mrs. James (Martha) Adams and Janet Smith of Indianapolis; five sisters, Camilla Smith of Columbus, Pat Pitstick of Fairborn, Mildred Hasser of Yellow Springs, Agnes Hupp of Louisville and Rose Paumier of Canton and two brothers, Phillip of New Lexington and Harry of Athens. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul’s Church in Greencastle with Father Edward Hildenbrand officiating. Services also will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s at Mattingly Settlement. Contributions may be to the Dan Smith Memorial Fund at Windy Hill Country Club in Greencastle or to St. Paul’s Church in Greencastle. Whitaker-Bittles-Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle is in charge of arrangements.  – kbz
