Alonzo Joseph Smith of the Kennedy Memorial Christian Home died Friday noon in the medical unit of the Home where he had been a patient for several weeks. Prior to that he had been a patient at the Morgan County Memorial Hospital for several weeks. A native of Putnam County, he was born Feb 14, 1875 the son of George W. and Amanda Ellen Smith. He was married to Alice Christy, who died July 11, 1953. The 91-year-old retired farmer lived in Fillmore most of his life, but lived for a while with his daughter, Mrs. Mabel D. Spratt of Coral Cables, Fla. Mr. Smith served one term as county commissioner of Putnam County. Last year in a ceremony at the Home he was presented with a 50-year pin by the Fillmore Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Mr. Smith was a member of the Applegate Lodge 153 F&AM. Besides the daughter in Florida, he leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Olive Duncan of Muncie, Mrs. Lillian Darnell of Coatesville and Mrs. Martha Gardner of Carmel; a son, Raymond W. Smith of Fillmore and a sister, Mrs. Effie McVay of Greenfield. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 at the Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle – kbz
