Mrs. Luella J. SMILEY, 84, a resident of Waveland and Parke County all her life, died Thursday morning Oct 19, 1961 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Lucas in Rockville. She was born Oct 4, 1877 in Judson. Her parents were Beverly and Frances Barnes Banta. In 1898 she married Andrew Smiley in Judson. She was a member of Parkville Christian Church and Greene Twp, Woman's Club. She attended Rockville Normal and Terre Haute Normal before becoming a teacher in the Parke County Schools. Survivors include a son, Robert of Judson; 3 daughters, Mrs. Foster Oldshue of Indianapolis; Mrs. Creed Sturm of Chicago and Mrs. Lucas of Rockville; two brothers, Frank of Marion and Oscar of Anderson; a sister, Mrs. Ralph Porter of Rockville; six grandchildren; five greats and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 Saturday in Parkville Christian Church, Rev. Ray Britton officiated. Burial in Portland Mills Cemetery. - typed by kbz
