The death of AJ Smedley occurred this morning. Mr. Smedley had been in failing health for a long time. Old age and softening of the brain caused his death. Mr Smedley was 81 years of age and was one of the oldest citizens of the county.  He was born in Maysville, Kentucky and moved direct to Putnam County and Greencastle 38 years ago. Mr. Smedley’s children are: Mrs. George Ricketts of Flora, Ill; Mrs. Harry Gardner of Madison Township; Mrs. AJ Hall of Brazil; Mrs. PB Elliott and Mrs. WA Howe of this city and James Smedley of Murphysboro, Ill. The funeral will occur Wednesday at 2 o’clock pm at the family residence, Anderson Street, Elder AH Morris in charge.

Mrs. JD Bence has returned to her home in Hamrick. She has been here to attend the funeral of AJ Smedley who was her uncle.
