Mrs. Mattie Smedley, of this city, died at the Insane Hospital, at Indianapolis, on Dec. 26, whither she had gone some weeks before for treatment. The remains were brought home on Friday. Deceased was the widow of L. E. Smedley, and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her death. The funeral took place from the family residence, on Sunday afternoon, and was largely attended. Elder Wood and Elder Morriss conducted the services. ---kbz

Mattie Wysong Smedley, youngest daughter of Benjamin and Mary Wyson, was married to Leonidas E. Smedley at Fillmore, Ind Sept 6, 1881. Died Dec 26, 1895 aged 36 years 11 months and 3 days. She leaves a father, one sister and four brothers to mourn her loss. She also leaves two small children without a mother’s love or a father’s counsel her husband having preceded her to the grave about 3 and a half years. Mrs. Smedley was a member of the ME Church, having united with the church at Morton, Ind in July last. She was a true and affectionate wife, a fond and loving mother seeming to live only for her family. Nearly 11 years ago the loss by death of a dear little child, her first born was a sore trial; for him she never ceased to grieve; many times she gave expression to the feeling that a part of her very existence departed with that child. ---kbz
