NEW MARKET – Ivan Slavens, 59, of New Market, manager of Time Oil Co. service station, died today in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Born Sept. 19, 1914, near Parkersburg, he was the son of Hiram and Elva Rice Slavens. He was married March 4, 1939, to Waunita Sarver. She survives. Other survivors include a son, George of Fowler; a daughter, Mrs. James (Rita) Stringer of Greenhill and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Powers Funeral Home here with the Rev. Francis Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
