SHIELDS, William Hughes - Putnam

Died in Livingston County, Mo Feb 5, 1890 from old age and general debility, Maj. William H. Shields aged 87 years 2 months and 25 days.  Deceased was born on the 11th of Nov, 1802 at Harrodsburg, KY and emigrated to Indiana in 1819, located near Bloomington and resided there up to 1822 at which time he located at Greencastle and remained until Sept 1864 removing at that time to Chillicothe, Mo where he passed the remaining 26 years of his life on the farm.  Deceased was Surveyor and Recorder of Putnam County for 30 years and knew all the old settlers throughout  the county.  His books show work done as far back as 1835.  In Book H, page 308 may be found the deed to lot 298 from William H. and Hannah Shield to the trustees of Indiana Asbury University dated Oct 29, 1832.  And among his papers is a perpetual scholarship in said institution.   ~~~Transcribed and Typed by kbz

Died at his residence in Fairview Township of old age and general debility, William H. Shields, aged 87 years.  Deceased was born in Harrodsburgh, Kentucky Nov 11, 1802 and emigrated to Indiana in 1810 (sic) where he followed surveying and engineering (sic) for 38 years.  In 1864 deceased in company with Judge John Cowgill and family moved to Livingston County and settled in Blue Mounds where he resided up to the date of his death.   ~~~Transcribed and Typed by kbz
