Oscar A. Shepherd, candidate for treasurer was born near Groveland, Floyd Township Sept 4, 1869. He was raised on the farm and in common with other country boys, worked on the farm during the summer season and going to the district school in the winter. At the age of 16 he went to normal school at Danville, coming home in the summer to assist his father with the crops. From the Danville Normal he went to the State Normal at Terre Haute where he remained until he left for Franklin College where he would have completed his course with the class of 95 but had to abandon it on account of failing health and returned home. Mr. Shepherd, though a young man has had a good business training and has taken an active part in politics, being an ardent republican. He is always ready to defend its principles. He is secretary of the Groveland republic club and is foremost in its work for the advancement of republican principles. He will make a host of friends. Mr. Shepherd made a splendid impression by his manly speech before the convention and he will go after votes with a will.
