SHARP, Theodore - Putnam

Funeral services for Theodore Sharp, whose death was noted last week, were held at the Methodist Church on Friday afternoon in charge of Rev. C.B. Stanforth. The large attendance was an evidence of the esteem of the community. Special music was rendered by a quartet: Will Alkire, OG Swanay, Harry Ramsay and Lee Foster. The pallbearers were AC Deere, Jesse McMains, Ott Kolling, Elba Emmert, AR Hunsicker and Elmer Reiter. The flowers were carried by Mrs. CW Spencer, Mrs. Hunsicker, mrs. Hostetler and Mrs. Irons. burial at Maple Ridge.

Theodore Matthew Sharp, the fourth of a family of 13 children that blessed the home of Isaac and Mary Sharp was born at Russellville April 19, 1859; he died at his home in Waveland, Tues even, Sept 3, 1929, having reached the age of 70 years, 4 months and 15 days. In common with very many children of this time, he was denied the advantages of a thorough education, and in his early manhood he learned the trades of carriage-painting and shoe-reparing. At these two trades he has spent his entire life always living in this immediate community. For many years now he has been Waveland's only shoe repairman. Though a humble position in which to serve, he has labored so faithfully and so honestly that the community has experienced a distinct loss in his death. At the age of 14 years he became a Christian and for almost 3 score years now he has lived a beautiful and consistent Christian life, serving the churches with which he held membership in various official capacities. Likewise for many years he has been a faithful and highly respected member of the fraternal society, The Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Dec 17, 1880 he was united in marriage to Louise Hendrickson of Waveland, and with her established a home that knew the genuine happiness that Christian marriage makes possible.

Four children blessed this home; three of them survive their parents: Raymond T. and Ira J of Waveland and Winford L of Granville, Ohio: a daughter, Neola died in infancy. The wife and mother departed this life, Jan 17, 1926 and now the father has gone to be with her-an event to which he has eagerly looked forward. For him death held no sting. Besides the 3 sons and their wives, he leaves to mourn his going 3 grandchildren: Margaret Louise, Floyd and Wilmer Sharp; one sister, Mrs. Emma Barr who for more than two years has made her home with him; and five brothers, Charles L. and John R of Waveland; Frank A of Indianapolis; Alva I of Montezuma and Otho W of Crawfordsville. Many other relatives and a throng of friends join in loving memory to his splendid life.   --- transcribed by kbz
