SHALLEY, James Franklin - Putnam

Three persons, including a 19-year-old Russellville youth were killed late Friday in a head on automobile collision on US 36 about ½ mile west of New Winchester. James Franklin Shalley was the Russellville victim. The others were identified by State Police Cpl. Charles Williams as Glen William Burr, 67, West Liberty, Iowa and Mrs. Lilian Burr, 67, his wife. Police said the highway surface was dry and that Shalley's car, traveling west, veered into the path of the eastbound Burr auto. Trooper Williams said Shalley, enroute home from an Indianapolis marble and tile company where he was employed may have dozed at the wheel. A road map with a route traced from Iowa to Orlando, Fla was found in the late-model Burr car which was full of luggage. It was later learned that Burr, a retired farmer and his wife were going to Shelbyville to visit a daughter, Mrs. Carl Kirk and then proceed for winter vacation in Florida. The crash occurred at 5 p.m. Young Shalley was born March 3, 1937 near Russellville, a son of Jeff and Dora Anderson Shalley. He was a member of the Russellville Federated Church and a 1955 graduate of Russelville HS. Surviving are the parents, the maternal grandparents, James and Stella Anderson and six aunts and five uncles. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Federated Church, Russellville, Rev. Glen Berg officiated.
