John L. Sellers died Tuesday afternoon at  4 o’clock at his home on the Limedale Putnamville Road after an illness of 8 months or more. During that time he was confined to his bed. His death was due to his advanced age, he having passed his 87th birthday anniversary last Aug 25. He was born on the farm on which he died, having spent practically his entire lifetime in that location. Mr. Sellers was one of the real pioneer residents of this county. He was widely known not only in his home community but over the county.  He was one of the early and sturdy men who aided the county in becoming the splendid commonwealth that it has grown to be in the past century. Mr. Sellers is survived by the widow and 7 children. They are EJ Sellers, Lake City, Michigan; Miss Kate Sellers, Greencastle; Mrs. Nannie Smythe, Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. CR Grogan, Indianapolis; Crawford Sellers who live son the home farm; Mrs. Smith of Warren Township; Mrs. Ross Smithson, Twete, Montana. When the Civil War came, Mr. Sellers answered the call of his country for volunteers and was a member of Company L, 3rd Indiana Cavalry. He served in that organization for three years, being under Col. Kilpatric and Lt. Langsdale. He was in many important engagements of the great war and was in the march with Gen. Sherman that the Army made to the Atlantic Coast. Four comrades of those days survive him. They are ZT Bryant, a cousin who spent the last several months assisting in the care of Mr. Sellers, also Mr. Hubbard of Washington, Simpson Burgon, Zionsville and John A. Moore of Illinois. Early in his life, Mr. Sellers united with the Presbyterian Church of Putnamville. After that old church was abandoned, he transferred his membership to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church in this city. He was also a member of the GAR Post of this city. The funeral will be held from the home Thursday afternoon at one o’clock, being in charge of Rev. Victor L. Raphael. Burial will be in the Putnamville cemetery.
