Clarence Sayler, well-kown here died at New Market on Monday of influenza. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milbert Sayler and brother of Mrs. Clarence Milligan. Funeral services at the home on Wednesday were conducted by Rev. John M. Caldwell. Interment at Masonic Cemetery at Crawfordsville.  -- typed by kbz

New Market, Oct 2 - Clarence Sayler, 29 years old, died at his home here at 7:30 o'clock this morning after an 8 days' illness which began with the influenza and developed into pneumonia. Mr. Sayler was well known as an enterprising young farmer and auctioneer. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Sayler and was a member of the Baptist Church and K of P. On May 17, 1911, he married Miss Maud Hoss and to this union one daughter was born, Charlotte. Mr. Sayler is survived by his parents, his wife and little daughter, two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Milligan of New Market and two brothers, Walter and Herbert, who reside here.  typed by kbz

Death, that every unwelcome vis itor, has been busy these many months; reaping a bountiful harvest of liv es and leaving deep sorrow and aching hearts in its path.  He came to o ur community Monday morning and took from us one of our most promising you ng men.  When we see as in this case, a young husband and father taken fr om his home, his wife and little daughter, whom he so fondly loved and che rished and from his parents, brothers and sisters to whom he was so close ly united, we wonder why?  We can only say, it is God®s will; his way is b est.  Clarence Lee. SAYLER, second son of Milbert and America Sayler, w as born near Browns Valley, Indiana August 24, 1888.  A few years later h is parents moved to a farm south of New Market where he grew to young manh ood.  He united with the Baptist Church at New Market in Dec 1906 and w as a regular attendant at Sunday school and church services.  On May 17, 1 911 he was married to Miss Maud HOSS who with their little daughter, Charl otte survives him.  He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milbe rt Sayler, two brothers, Walter and Hubert, two sisters, Mrs. Elva Millig an of Waveland and Mrs. Else Steele.  Besides these he leaves two aged gra ndmothers, Mrs. Sallie Vancleave and Mrs. Malinda Sayler, and a large circ le of other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.  Mention shou ld be made of the high esteem and affection in which he was held by Mr. a nd Mrs. FM Hoss and family.  He was to them a son and brother.  He was str icken with influenza which terminated in pneumonia.  He was mercifully rel eased from his intense suffering at 8 o®clock Monday morning, Dec 2, 191 8, aged 30 years 3 months and 8 days.  Clarence was blessed with a happy a nd cheerful disposition.  It was impossible to be in his company long a nd not feel his joy of living.  There was always the cheery hail as he pas sed or joyous greeting when one met him.  He will be greatly missed in t he church and social circle to which he belonged, as well as in the neighb orhood where he lived.  He was known over most of the county as a promine nt farmer and stock raiser and also as a rising auctioneer.  Perhaps no o ne knew the religious side of his nature more than his two old friends, Un cle Moss and Aunt Mollie Taylor, as he called them.  He had frequent conve rsations with them on the subject of religion and at different times taki ng passages of scripture there to have Aunt Mollie explain them to hi m.  No one outside the family will so sadly miss him as they will.  He sa id to Uncle Moss a few months ago, "I would like to live long enough to ac complish things so that it would be said the world was better for my havi ng lived in it.  But if I am called now there is no cloud in my way."  The se are consoling words to bereaved and aching hearts and will help th em to say with one of old, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away.  Bl essed be the name of the Lord."  And listen to the voice of your God.  I l ove thee.  I love thee.  Pass under the rod."  A Friend  -- typed by kbz
