George B. Sanford, 78, long-time resident of this community died at his home, 2030 South Second at 5 a.m. Thursday following an extended illness.  Mr. Sanford was born Oct 13, 1862 in Illinois and came to this country from Indiana in 1906.  He had made his home in Blackwell and in this community since.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Amanda Sanford; three daughters, Mrs. WC Acton of Tulsa; Mrs. Blanche Hadley of Dallas and Mrs. WE Reindt of LaJunta, Colo; four sons, Leland and William of Blackwell, Glenn of Calvin, Ill; and James of Hutchinson, Ks; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Hildebrand who lives in Indiana and two brothers, James of Franklin, Ind and William of Greenville, Ind. Funeral services will be held at Roberts Mortuary Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. EW Harrison pastor of the Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Round Grove cemetery southeast of the city. – kbz

George B. Sanford was born Oct 13, 1861 at Lebanon, Ind, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Youel Sanford and died at his home, 2030 South Second at 5 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 1914.  He was married to Amanda Conner at Crawfordsville, Ind Nov 24, 1888 and to this union were born six sons and four daughters.  Two sons, Cecil and Clyde and one daughter, Edna preceded him in death.  Mr. Sanford with his family came to the Blackwell community in 1906 where he has since resided.  Surviving are 7 children: Leland Sanford of the home; Mrs. WC Acton of Tulsa; Mrs. Blanche Hadley of Dallas; Glen Sanford of Calvin, Ill; Jim Sanford of Hutchinson, Kans; Mrs. WE Reindl of LaJunta, Colo; and FW Sanford of Blackwell; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers, William Sanford of Greencastle, Ind and James Sanford of Morgantown, Ind and a sister, Mrs. Josephine Hilderbrand of Morgantown.  Funeral services were held at Roberts Mortuary Saturday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. EW Harrison, pastor of the Christian Church officiating. Burial was in the Round Grove Cemetery. Note: some of his children were born in Putnam County.
