SANDERS, Harriet Ellen Crosby - Putnam

Funeral services were held at the Chastain funeral home here Monday afternoon for Mrs. Harriet Ellen Sanders, 66, who died at her home here Saturday morning. Burial was made in Roachdale cemetery. Mrs. Sanders was born near here March 31, 1874, a daughter of Elisha and Martha Miller Crosby. She was married March 11, 1896, to Omer Sanders who survives. Other survivors are a son Deryl of near here; Miss Corda Crosby of this place and Mrs. John Hill of Lizton; four brothers; Lemuel Crosby of near Ladoga and Harvey, Edward and Charles Crosby of this place and one grandchild.

Harriet Ellen, the youngest child of Elisha O. and Martha J. Crosby, was born March 31, 1875, near Roachdale, Indiana. She attended the local schools and on March 11, 1895, she was united in marriage to Omer Sanders. To them was born one son Deryl Lee Sanders. Being always of a happy, jolly disposition, her serious illness, beginning about four months ago, was an unexpected shock to her many friends and relatives. Yet in spite of the unceasing care of her loved ones, with assistance of skilled help, her spirit slipped away into the morning mists on December 21, 1940. She was 65 years 8 months and 21 days old when her call came to go. Besides her husband and son, she leaves her daughter-in-law, Mary Sanders, one grandson, Joseph Lee Sanders, two sisters and four brothers.    --- thanks so much to Marilyn Walker for donating her wonderful Roachdale Times obituary file for use on this site
