Source: Lafayette Journal Monday 21 Oct 1918 p 6
Word was received here Saturday of the death of Mrs. Jack Rothberg which occurred at her home in Greencastle Saturday morning of influenza and along with this sad message came the information that her husband at Greencastle and her father, Max Goodman of Monticello are seriously ill of the same malady. Mrs. Rothberg, formerly Miss Esther Goodman was born at Monticello about 27 years ago. She was a sister of Mrs. Charles Atlass of this city and for two years taught in the Tippecanoe School. About three years ago she was married to Mr. Rothberg, a Purdue graduate then employed with the Atlass Produce company. About a year ago they went to Greencastle where Mr. Rothberg was associated with the Greencastle Produce company. Mrs. Rothberg was a graduate of Monticello High School, a talented musician and of a charming and lovable personality. She was attacked by influenza several weeks ago but her condition did not become critical until last Monday when Mrs. Atlass and other members of the family were called to her bedside. Besides her husband and parents and sister, Mrs. Atlass she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Clifford Ach of Los Angeles, Cal and a brother, Bernard Goodman of Monticello. The body will be brought here today and place in a vault in the Jewish Cemetery to await the arrival of Mrs. Ach from California. At a late hour this morning Mr. Rothberg’s condition was reported as being improved but Mr. Goodman’s condition is regarded as critical. – kbz
