Ralph M. Ross, 90, Speedway, a retired educator died Sept 4. He was a faculty member and administrator for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Terre Haute for 29 years, retiring as VP in 1975. He was professor emeritus of mathematics. Mr. Ross joined the faculty in 1946 and was appointed professor of mathematics in 1956. He was named the school’s first full-time dean of students in 1961 and became its first VP of student affairs in 1973. He supervised the expansion of the varsity and intramural athletics programs and was instrumental in establishing an infirmary on campus. Previously, he taught mathematics at Greencastle and Brownstown high schools. A 1933 graduate of DePauw University, Mr. Ross received a master’s degree from Indiana University in 1938. He served on the American Red Cross board in Terre Haute and was a member of the TH Rotary Club. He also was a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, Terre Haute and served the church as superintendent of education. An Army AF veteran of WWII, he was a member of American Legion Post 500. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sept 7 in Speedway Christian Church of which he was a member. Calling will be from 3-8 p.m. Sept 6 in Flanner & Buchanan Speedway Mortuary. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice. Survivors: wife Leanna Dahmer Cunningham Ross; children Debby Thompson, Carl Cunningham; a granddaughter. – kbz
