QUARLES, Hazel Byrd - Putnam

Elkhart – Services for Hazel Byrd Quarles, 96, Elkhart are schedule for 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Elkhart with Revs. Theo Johnson, Rick Kelly and Floyd Petersen officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. Mrs. Charles died Friday in Palestine.  She was born Jan 4, 1894 in Greencastle, Ind.  She was a homemaker, a charter member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Red Town and member of the First Baptist Church, Elkhart. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Roger Earl Quarles in 1920 and Edward Kennedy Quarles in 1942 and a son, Roger Fagan Quarles in 1978.  She was the daughter of the late John Wesley and Alma Forkum Byrd. Survivors include four daughters: Dorothy Adison, Possum Kingdom  Lake; Pauline Streetman and Annie Saunders, both of Elkhart and Lucille Nelms, Granbury; a son, Gus Quarles, Houston; a niece; a nephew; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. - kbz
