The death of Miss Margaret L. Pyke, for the past 3 years instructor of German in the Greencastle HS occurred at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis at about 10 o’clock this morning.  Miss Pyke went to the hospital last Saturday morning to undergo an operation for appendicitis.  Her death was indirectly due to the operation, uremic poisoning having developed following the operation. The poisoning was the cause of her death.  Miss Pyke was a graduate of DePauw University with the class of 1909 and was a member of the Alpha O sorority.  She was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity.  Miss Pyke began teaching in the Greencastle HS the year following her graduation from DePauw and had been instructor of German since that time.  Her parents live in Romney, Ind, a small town near Lafayette.  The body probably will be taken there for burial.  No action had been made by the school board in regard to Miss Pyke’s death at a late hour this afternoon.  A meeting will be held tomorrow and it is likely several of the teachers will attend the funeral.  Miss Pyke was one of the most popular in the schools of Greencastle and was well liked by her pupils.  Miss Hirschey of Bloomington is acting as substitute in Miss Pyke’s place until definite action is taken.   ---transcribed by kbz
