William E. (Bill) Porter, 74 Poland passed away Tuesday evening at his residence.  Born March 31, 1919 at Portland Mills, he was the son of Roy and Charlotte (Eiteljorge) Porter.  On May 24, 1980, he married the former Garnett Hayes and she survives. Mr. Porter was employed for 25 years by IBM Corp retiring in 1979.  He was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.  He was a member of Brick Chapel United Methodist and the American Legion post at Greencastle.  In addition to the wife, survivors include two sons, Russell Porter, Canyon, Colo and Robert Porter and wife Mary, Roachdale; two daughters, Shiela Chadd and husband, Ron, Crawfordsville and Charlotte Horn, Bainbridge; two stepsons, Larry Elliott and wife Jeanie, Knightsville and Glen Elliot, Reelsville; three stepdaughters, Lynn Brown and husband Bob, Greencastle, Barbara Hopkins and husband Joe, Greencastle and Phyllis Stanton and husband Bob, Poland; a sister, Virginia Elia and husband Chuck, San Antonio; a brother, Jack Porter and wife Carol, Greencastle; 7 grandchildren; 9 stepgrandchildren and two great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Elsie Twigg and Mary Vanlandingham.  Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle where friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Myron Welty will officiate. Burial with military rites will be in Poland Chapel Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Foundation.
