William L. “Bill” Ping, 61 of 2251 Powderhouse Ln, died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday in Home Hospital. He had been hospitalized since Sept 28 and in ill health since suffering a heart attack at his home. He was born and reared at Russellville and came to the Lafayette area from Wingate in 1946. In 1947, he was married at Piggott, Ark to Rita B. Swayze, who survives. Mr. Ping was employed at TRW, Ross Gear Division for 34 ½ years retiring Jan 1, 1981. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, was second district senior vice commander of VFW Father’s Auxiliary and commander of VFW Fathers Auxiliary Post 1154. He also was a member of UAW, Local 531, Athletic Association at Ross Gear, Moose Lodge 1525 and Eagles Lodge 347. Surviving with the widow are one daughter, Mrs. William (Meritta) Emery; three sons, Royal W. “Dub” Ping, Anthony A. Ping and Jerald J. Ping, all of Lafayette; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Bishop of Wingate; Mrs. Cleon (Louise) Hill of Lafayette, Mrs. Lois Williams of Columbus Ohio and two brothers, George Ping of Seattle, Wash and Earl Ping of Lafayette.
