Cloverdale, April 27, 1863 -- At a meeting of the commissioned officers of the 31st Reg. Ind. Volunteers, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted biz: whereas, by a mysterious dispensation of Providence, our esteemed friend and brother officer, Lt. John A. Pike while in the prime of youth has been removed from among us by a sudden death: therefore resolved, 1st – that in the death of Lt. John A. Pike, this regiment has lost a good man and brave officer; the country one of her purest Patriots and Noblest Defenders that with feelings of the deepest regret and sorrow we deplore his early death. 2d. That we most sincerely sympathize with the bereaved relatives and friends of the deceased in this their sad affliction. 3d. That these resolutions be entered on the Regimental Record, one copy be furnished the Relatives of the deceased; also copies for publication be furnished the Parke County Republican, Putnam Republican Banner and Terre Haute Evening Democrat.
