Greenwood – Miss Ella Hazel Pickett, long time school teacher who would have retired from the Greenwood school system on June 6 died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday morning in the Johnson County Memorial Hospital.  Miss Pickett became ill yesterday while teaching at the Northeast Elementary school and was taken to the hospital at 3 p.m. Wednesday where she died early this morning. Recently, she was the guest of honor at a “This is your life,” program sponsored by the Northeast Elementary faculty in gratitude of the seven years of service she had given the school.  The program was attended by many of her former students and relatives.  Born in Putnam County on December 4, 1898, she graduated from Bainbridge HS in 1918. In 1950 she received her BS degree from Canterbury College.  This year marked her 48th year as a teacher. She resided at 402 N Smart Street in Greenwood and was a member of the Greenwood Methodist Church.  Surviving are two sisters, Myrtle and Cratie and two brothers (not named).  Funeral arrangements are pending completion at the JC Wilson Greenwood Chapel. – kbz
