Mrs. Laura Beckwith Phillips, wife of A.B. Phillips, who had been confined to the Putnam County Hospital for the past ten weeks, died at 5 o'clock Thursday afternoon. She had just passed her 73rd birthday on
February 26, 1929.

Funeral services will be held from the family home corner of Poplar and Vine streets on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Dr. C. Howard Taylor, pastor of the Methodist Church will have charge of the service
assisted by Rev. Victor Raphael pastor of the Presbyterian Church, and Dr. SB Town. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips had been ill for ten weeks as a result of a fall in her home on the night of January 24, 1929 when her hip was broken. She was immediately taken tot he Putnam County Hospital where death occurred.  Prior to that time she had been in fairly good health.

Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Beckwith, who lived in Greencastle for many years.  She was born in Clayton, Ind where she spent her early days, later moving to Danville, Ind and then to
Greencastle.  On October 24, 1883 she married in Greencastle at the old family home on Indiana Street to AB Phillips, and moved immediately to Chillicothe, Mo living there for a number of years later moving to
Wichita, Kan. Thirty years ago Mrs. Phillips moved back to Greencastle, with her family, where she has since resided.

Mrs. Phillips was one of the best known residents of Greencastle, not only among the residents of the town, but also by college students as well, being known to many of them as "Mother Phillips."  She housed a group of girls a number of years ago that formed the old Delta Alpha sorority which later became the present chapter of Tri Delts.

Mrs. Phillips was an active worker in the Methodist Church and was one of the first women to be named a member of the Official Board of the church. For a number of years she was assistant superintendent of the
Sunday School and was an active worker in all church organizations. She was also a member of the Over-the-Tea Cups Club of Greencastle.

Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Halbert P. Phillips of Memphis, Tenn and two sisters, Misses Ella and Emma Beckwith of this city and one brother, Orion W. Beckwith of Chicago, Ill.

Pall bearers will be S.A. Hays; Prof . RA Orgg; Prof. Harry Gough; Henry Krehl; Fred Crawford and Fred L. O'Hair.
