BAINBRIDGE Caleb Phillips, one of our aged and most respected citizens, who has been an invalid for several years, quietly passed away in the 74th year of his age about 7 o'clock Tuesday morning. He was born in Franklin county, Virginia, August 18, 1818. At the age of eleven, his father having died, he moved with his grand-mother to Bedford county, and subsequently from thence to Roanoke, where he lived until year 1869, when he with his family immigrated to Putnam county, Indiana, where he has resided most of the time since. He was twice married, first to Rhoda Woods, which union was blessed with five children, three of whom lived to be grown. His second marriage, to Polly Ann B--sa-, was blessed with thirteen sons and a daughter, making a total of eighteen children by the two marriages; six of the latter with their mother still survive to mourn the loss of a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father. He was a member of the Methodist church in his native state, but never renewed his connection with any christian denomination in this state. He was regarded as upright and honorable in his dealings with his fellow man, and was a staunch and unwavering democrat in politics. May he rest in peace.
