Drs. McCluggage, Horniday and Polk held a post mortem examination of the body of Newton Oliver last Friday afternoon. They found a cancerous growth upon the pancreas, but the direct cause of his death was ulceration of the stomach, destroying its powers to digest any nourishment. - kbz
Newtown Oliver, who died on Thursday the 7th inst was born April 1st 1836 in Owen County, Indiana. He was married to Elizabeth Wells Nov 3d 1858 in Putnam County, Indiana. Six children were born to them, of whom only two sons were living at the time of his death. They came to Butler County, Kansas in the fall of 1869 and had maintained the respect of friends and neighbors during his long citizenship here. In the winter of 1875 he was baptized, and united with the Christian Church. He also united with the Masonic fraternity in Douglass. At the time of his death he was 60 years, nine months and six days old. He was buried Sunday morning the 10th inst, Elder JE Cain preaching the funeral discourse at the home of the deceased. Many relatives and friends and the Masonic Fraternity turned out to pay a last tribute of respect to the deceased. – kbz

Newton Oliver, an old and respected citizen of this township died yesterday afternoon after a long and severe illness. The funeral services will be held at his late residence on Sunday at 10 o’clock a.m.- kbz

Joe Satterthwaite was up from Douglass today. He reports the death yesterday afternoon of Newton Oliver, an old resident of Douglas Township, who has been sick for the past six months. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 10 o’clock.- kbz

Died at his home four miles northeast of Douglass, Thursday, Jan 77 after a long illness, Newton Oiver, aged about 61 years. Mr. Oliver was a pioneer of Butler County, a prominent farmer, a good citizen and neighbor. His family has the sympathy of many friends. The funeral occurs Jan 10 at 10 a.m.- kbz
