Ross O’Rear who was injured when he fell under a car load of stone at the quarry of the MidWest Crushed Stone Company here, about 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon died shortly before midnight at the County Hospital.  His death was due to the shock from the accident.  Mr. O’Rear was braking on one of the loaded stone cars, using a “brake stick,” when he slipped and fell in front of the car.  In attempting to get out, he was caught between the boxing and frozen ground. The car wheel did not pass over his leg, but the boxing held him and at the same time he was dragged over the frozen earth, being turned over and over and his leg was pulled off at the knee joint. Mr. O’Rear was loading in the EB Taylor automobile at once and rushed to Dr. Tucker’s office here. A glance at the injured man’s leg showed he should be removed to the hospital and the men started, going through Northwood Boulevard to the Hospital. The accident occurred about the time the sleet and snow began falling and the streets were very slick. As the machine attempted to make the curve from Northwood Boulevard into Greenwood Avenue near the home of OJ Larkin, the car skidded and struck the curbing, breaking off both the rear wheels. The 4 or 5 workmen who had accompanied Mr. O’Rear carried him to the hospital from the wrecked automobile. Dr. CC Tucker, assisted by Dr. WW Tucker and Dr WR Hutcheson amputated the leg at the hip and everything that could be done was done to relieve his suffering and aid him but his death followed a few hours afterwards. Mr. O’Rear was 41 years of age. He is survived by two children, Mary and Donald, students in the high school and his aunt. Mrs. Rawlings.  He was a Mason and a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of this city. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at Locust Street Church, Rev. HC Clippinger will have charge of the services. The body will then be taken to Quincy, Mr. O’Rear’s former home where a short service will be held in the Methodist Church there. Interment will be in Quincy Cemetery. The Masonic order will assist in the funeral services. - kbz
