Mr. Editor: Mrs. Elizabeth Nicholson, whose death was announced in your issue oflast week, was the oldest child of Alexander and Nancy Moffat of Woodford Co KY.  She was married to Benjamin Nicholson in Trimble County KY. Soon after which they came to this county.  Mrs. Nicholson was a lady of great decision of purpose of marked intelligence, most a devoted Christian, and in all the relations of life faithful.  In token of the high esteem in which she was held by those who knew her, a vast concourse of friends, neighbors and acquaintances was in attended at her funeral, which was preached in the Christian Church in Fillmore, on Monday the 5th inst at 3 o’clock p.m. by Elder OP Badger of your city. Mrs. Nicholson was 56 years, 8 months 3 days old, at the time of her death which was on the evening of 3 Sept 1881.  The disease from which she suffered was typhoid fever of the most malignant type, baffling the skill of physicians, were most attentive and did all they could to save to the children and the church and the world so valuable a life. She leaves 7 children, 2 sons and 5 daughters, all of whom have attained to manhood attained to manhood and womanhood. The son  who lives in Missouri and who is treasurer of his county was present at the funeral and so were all the children, except one daughter, Mrs. Alice Frank who with every member of her family was confined upon her bed with the same terrible disease, but now convalescent. In the death of this noble woman, the church suffers and the community suffers, but the great sufferers are the dear daughters who were at home, for the bond that held the little family together is now broken forever. “What is home without a mother.” - kbz
