NEWHOUSE, Omer A (Major)

Funeral services were held from Post Chapel at Fort Sam Houston San Antonio Texas on June 8th for Major Omer A. Newhouse, former Putnam County man. Interment was in the cemetery at Fort Houston.  Major Newhouse is survived by the widow, Mrs. Florence Stoner Newhouse, a former Greencastle girl. He was born in Bainbridge on June 3, 1877 and died June 5th after a month’s illness. Major Newhouse went into the Army Medical Corps immediately after war was declared, from Montezuma, Ind where he had been practicing medicine since his graduation from Rush Medical College. He served his country faithfully and honorably until he was retired Sept 30, 1934 while stationed at Ft. HG Wright, New York. In Sept 1935 he went to San Antonio for permanent residence. During his military career he was stationed at Camp Normoyle and Fort Sam Houston from 1924-1930.
