Harlan C. Nelson, 84, Brazil, died early Monday at his residence.

Born June 2, 1913 in Madison Township of Putnam County, he was the son of David Oscar and Edna Pearl (Harland) Nelson.

He attended Putnam County schools, and was a life member of the Greencastle Moose Lodge, and a member of Cloverdale Masonic Lodge.

He was a self-employed truck driver, and retired from the Putnam County Highway Department.

He married Ruth Boyce on Nov. 10, 1961. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Patty Carman and husband Charles, Greencastle; a son, Dale Nelson and wife Darlene, Wilmington, Ill. ; two sisters, Dorothy Littrell and Ruth Goodman, both of Greencastle; a brother, Louis Nelson, Greencastle; four grandchildren, Joyce Paris, Rick Carman, Randy Carman and Susan Brothers; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Maurice "Bud" Nelson, Frank "John Ike" Nelson, Francis "Buster" Nelson, and Harold "Punk" Nelson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p. m. Wednesday at Calcutta Cemetery, Brazil, with Rev. Steve Brattain officiating.

Visitation is set for 5-8 p. m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral home, Brazil.
