McNARY, John W. - Putnam

Another Pioneer at Rest. There died at his home in Fillmore, last Monday morning, on of the Putnam county's earliest pioneers and best citizens, John W. McNary. He was a native of Kentucky, born May 4, 1814, and came to this country with his parents in 1826 and here grew up to manhood, receiving a common school education. In 1838 he married Miss Sarah A. Applegate and to them were born six children, of whom four, William, Peter, Harry and Mrs. Louisa Sinclair, and the wife of his youth survive him. Mr. McNary served one term as trustee of Marion township, and nine years as county commissioner for the second district and was for eight years president of the board. In politics he was an unwavering democrat, as an officer, he had no superior, as a citizen, he was honored, patriotic and upright, and as a husband, he was kind affectionate and true. In the fullness of ripe age he has passed to rest and will be long remembered as a good and noble man and citizen. The funeral occurred from the Christian church in Fillmore, of which he was an exemplary member, on Tuesday, Elder Brown, of Morgan county, officiating.
