McMURTRY, Peter

The influenza has found its first victim. This morning at 2:30 o’clock Peter D. McMurtry died at his home on the corner of Market Street and Park Avenue, from an attack of the LaGrippe. He had been suffering from the disease for several days but thought it was nothing serious and went about his business as usual. On Saturday he was compelled to take to his bed. On Sunday he got along very well, but that night became much worse, in fact delirious. The doctors think he had a slight attack of apoplexy about midnight. Death is always very sad but particularly so when a young wife with two small children are left to mourn as in this case. Among his associated he was a favorite, and had the esteem and confidence of neighbors and acquaintances and the town over. Pete McMurtry was known as a “square man.” He was born in Putnam County about 85 years ago and came to this city from Ladoga about five years since. The funeral will occur on Friday afternoon.
