Samuel McMains died Sunday morning (June 4) at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Ratliff, where he had been staying for several weeks. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at Union Chapel, under the auspices of the Morton Masonic Lodge, Rev. O. F. Lane delivering the address. Interment in Union Chapel Cemetery, where his wife had been laid to rest seven years ago. Samuel McMains was born June 28, 1833 near Waveland. He was one of a family of thirteen children, of whom five sisters and three brothers, all older than himself, are still living. All of these aged brothers and sisters attended the funeral except one. He spent most of his married life near Morton, where he was highly respected and while still a young man became a member of the Christian Church at Portland Mills. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Samuel Rambo, Mrs. Samuel Ratliff, Mrs. Ella Grimes, Mrs. Clarence Sigler; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
