Mrs. Mary McCullough, aged 87 years
6 months and one day, one of the oldest and most highly respected women of Clay
County died at 7:30 o’clock last night at the home of her son, Lewis McCullough
at 110 East Kruzan Street of general debility, incident of advanced age. Mrs.
McCullough, who was familiarly known throughout Jackson Township and vicinity
as “Grandma,” was a type of the good, old fashioned, pioneer women of the
county, whose principal interests in life were centered in her family. She was born in Kentucky but at age four, her
parents moved to Clay County. Since that time, Mrs. McCullough has resided in
Clay County and therefore is regarded as one of the old settlers of the
vicinity. She was the widow of Alexander McCullough, who died about 14 years
ago and she is survived by three sons and three daughters as follows: Robert of
Sexton, Colo; Lewis of Brazil; William of near Staunton; Mrs. Charlotte Summer
of Reelsville; Mrs. Sarah E. Lucas of Revuelto, NM; Mrs. Mary Haney of the old
home farm in Jackson Township. Funeral services will be held at the home of
Lewis McCullough in this city at 9 o’clock tomorrow (Tuesday morning, the Rev.
Lawrence Atheny of Greencastle officiating).
Burial will be made in the McCullough Cemetery, southeast of the city in
Putnam County.
