Lucy E. Lane was born September 28, 1876 in Adams County, Indiana from which place she removed to Atlanta, Ind where at the age of 14, she united with the Christian Church.  In 1901 she removed to Greencastle, Ind in 1891 transferred her church membership to Locust Street Methodist Episcopal Church with whose Epworth League she had been closely associated for perhaps five years. In the same year her membership was changed to Loogootee ME Church where her husband was pastor. She has always been faithful in her church relations; in Christian Endeavor in Epworth League and Sabbath school, never shirking any known duty no matter how difficult or discouraging; bearing all burdens in humility and sincerity. At the time of her death she was president of the Ladies’ Aid Society and of the Woman’s Home Missionary Society and a member of the Foreign Missionary Society which are active in church interests in Loogootee. She had an implicit faith in Jesus as her Savior, telling her loved ones the day before she died that there was none other in whom we could put our trust and hope of salvation.  No pastor could have had a mere interested and faithful companion than she, nor any church a more helpful and cheerful spirit. She was married to Rev. Chas. A. McCullough Sept 25, 1901 at her home in Greencastle and immediately took up the work of an itinerant Methodist preacher’s wife. She labored to make her home happy and spared no pains for the comfort of her husband and loved ones; among the latter she counted all her friends. She loved her home and her bright face and cheery smiles scattered sunshine around, inspiring hope and gladness, driving away care and sorrow. Truly it may be said of her as of one of old, “She hath done what she could,” and the aroma of her life will soothe many sad and weary hearts.  She died at her home in Loogootee, Ind Jan 8, 1903, aged 26 years, 3 months 11 days. Besides her husband she leaves a mother, Mrs. Hannah C. Lane, two sisters, Miss Jessie Lane of Greencastle and Mrs. Laud Cord, of Ireland, Ind; three brother, Otto, Frank and Orlando all of Greencastle and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her death.

The funeral of Mrs. Lucy Lane McCullough, wife of Rev. Chas. McCullough, was held Sunday morning at 9 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Hannah Lane, her mother south of the city.  The service was participated in by Rev. WH Wylie, Dr. HA Gobin and Prof. RA Ogg, the latter from Kokomo for the service. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery.
