Living for 70
years in one city is something of a record in this day and age, and living
until the age of 91 is also unusual, but that is the record of WW McCoy, who
passed away in this city yesterday. Mr.
McCoy was born in Putnam County, Indiana but when quite young went to Missouri
with his parents, where he grew to manhood. The year of the gold rush to
California brought him to the coast and he went first to the northern part of
the state, coming south to San Bernardino in the year 1852. He made this city
his home ever since and became a member of the Pioneer society. He was taken
ill about a year ago and then recovered somewhat, only to grow gradually weaker
until Sunday when he was taken to the hospital, the end coming on Monday.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Walter A. Shay of 495 Arrowhead Avenue at whose
home the deceased had lived for some time and a sister, Mrs. Cynthia Morris
living near Redlands. Funeral service will be held this afternoon at 3:30
o’clock from the chapel of the Mark B. Shaw Company and interment will be in
the City cemetery.
