Roberta A. McCormick went to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2015, at Autumn Glenn Assisted Living in Greencastle. Roberta was born Nov. 18, 1923, in Warren County, to Robert E. and Anna F. Cottingham. She graduated from Pine Village High School and was valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Indiana State and then Purdue. She married Robert E. McCormick on July 3, 1952. They moved to Greencastle and opened Mac’s Apparel for Men. They had two children, William (Shirley) McCormick and Trudy (Mike) Cromwell. Roberta worked for Public Service for 14 years as a home economist. She was a wonderful cook who loved experimenting with new recipes and enjoyed teaching her craft to others. Roberta was an avid golfer and was past president of the Indiana Women’s Golf Association. Many family vacations revolved around golf. She also enjoyed playing almost any card game, but became especially proficient at Bridge. One of her favorite past times was watching sports on television, especially her beloved Purdue. Her memberships included the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Windy Hill Country Club and the Indiana Old Ladies Golf Association. She was preceded in death by her husband; both children; two brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by sister Vivian Martin; daughter-in-law Shirley McCormick; grandchildren, Rob (Stacy) McCormick, Annie Sears, Carie Staggs and Scott Cromwell; and three great-grandchildren. Friends and family may visit 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle. There will be a short memorial service following visitation.
