Quincy, Ind Nov 5 – A probably fatal shooting affray occurred here Saturday afternoon. Hiram McCormack was the victim and the shooting was done by Oscar Webster a constable who came here from Greencastle and placed McCormack under arrest on a writ issued in Putnam County by a Justice of the Peace. McCormack denied the authority of Webster and after some parleying, started to run from him. Webster, who came armed with a club, revolver and a pair of handcuffs, drew his pistol and shot McCormack. He fell to the ground and was carried to the office of Dr. DH McDonald while citizens took charge of Webster, who was remanded to jail at Spencer. The bullet it was found had entered the right side, passed through the bowels and lodged under the skin on the left side of the body where it was found and taken out. The wound is thought to be fatal. – kbz
