McCAMMACK, Asbury
Source: Greencastle Daily Banner Dec. 15. 1933
Asbury McCammack, 73 years old, passed away at his home, the Half-Way House, Thursday afternoon at 2:45 o’clock, after an illness of several months. Mr. McCammack was born near Eminence, on the Putnam-Morgan County line but spent most of his life in Putnam County. He was united in marriage to Miss Cora E. Bourne on March 29, 1891. She passed away March 3, 1932. Until Sept 1916, Mr. and Mrs. McCammack lived on a farm in Marion Township but on that date they purchased the famous Half Way House at Mt. Meridian, where they continued to live until their deaths. Their operation of this widely known eating place, was continuous from 1916 until last year when they gave up the active operation of it. It was during these years that Mr. McCammack came to be widely known throughout this section of the United States, as many from every place stopped to eat with him. Mr. McCammach was of a sympathetic nature and had many lasting friends with all who came in contact with him. His willingness to serve his fellowmen in to the community around Mt. Meridian will make it hard for the community to fill his place. He was the friend of both young and old in his home community and enjoyed being with his friends. He had many close personal acquaintances in Greencastle who will regret to learn of his passing on. Deceased is survived by one son, Virgil McCammack of Mt. Meridian; two brothers, Oscar E of Coatesville and Ezekial of Quincy; three sisters, Mrs. Ernest Skelton, Coatesville; Mrs. William Carpenter, Greencastle and Mrs. Robert Sullivan, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the New Providence Church in Jefferson Township with burial in Providence cemetery. – thanks so much to Cindy A
