MITCHELL, Sarah Gartan - Putnam

Mrs. Sarah Gartan Mitchell died at her late home, one mile west of Bryan on Tuesday evening Sept 6, 1910.  She was born May 4, 1839 in Greencastle, Ind where she resided until her marriage to David Mitchell Dec 31, 1861.  Aug 7, 1901 the husband was called by death from the home so long occupied by the aged couple. She united with the Presbyterian Church when a child, remaining steadfast in her Faith until death.  The last audible work spoken was pray!  She leaves as a monument to her memory many hearts made grateful by kind words, for help in sickness and unselfish devotion to those in need.  Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. GM Shaffer at her late home Thursday afternoon; after which her remains were laid to rest in Brown’s cemetery by the side of her deceased husband. – kbz
