MILLER. Cora Utterback - Putnam

Cora Agnes Utterback, daughter of Wm. H. and Martha Utterback was born June 25, 1864.  Complimentary to her early training she obeyed her Lord in Christian Baptism when about 14 years old and became a member of the Bethel Christian Church and later came to join in the fellowship of the Christian Church of Roachdale where she was honored and loved by all as one ever ready to share in the Lord’s work and in Christian service.  On Oct 9, 1882 she was married to Jerry Franklin Miller to which long and happy union there came on child, a daughter Ina Miller who preceded her mother to her eternal reward on Sept 4, 1919 leaving her baby daughter Evaline Miller Sutherlin to cheer the hearts of the sad husband and parents.  Mrs. Miller whose memory we honor today, never recovered from the shock of her daughter’s death and weakened in body, gradually surrendered her life in thoughts and memories until the end came on last Monday, April 12, 1926 and at the age of 61years 10 months 17 days.  Sister Miller was a Christian woman of a most beautiful character and a faith that never wavered even in life’s darkest hours.  She was a devoted wife and mother, kind and gentle to all and always faithful to her Lord whom she served in sprit and in truth.  Her life was filled with usefulness until in recent months when broken under the strain of life’s trials, she lay in her bed subjected to the careful hands of kind and loving friends and neighbors, satisfied and content in the promises of her Lord that he would come for her.  Her last hours were such as only a true Christian might expect.  There remain to mourn her passing her granddaughter, Evelin Miller Sutherlin; her husband, Jerry Franklin Miller; three sisters, Mr. Teressa Click of Kalamazoo Mich; Mrs. Levonia Ellis of Ladoga and Mrs. Susan Davis of Lebanon, Ind; together with a host of other relatives and friends who will never forget the loving and kind friend they have so long enjoyed and whose influences shall live on and on in their lives until God in his own fullness of time shall call them too across the great divide.  With eyes dimmed and hearts heavy with tears of memory may we her friends pause to know that: *She sleeps now. No more her breast heaves with its weary breath. Pain sits no longer on her brow where lies the calm of death.  Sunk to her rest like a tired child, she sleeps in slumber deep, Resting in the hope of Him, who giveth His beloved sleep.     ~~~transcribed by kbz
