Elizabeth McCoy was born in Kentucky Feb 18, 1844.  In her early childhood her parents moved to their part of Indiana, making their home first near the present site of the county farm, later near Westfield and finally moving to the community where she spent her later life. She had one brother, Frank, now dead.

She was married to William Day Oct 9, 1860.  To them was born a daughter, Sarah, now deceased. Mr. Day united with the Union Army in the war of the Rebellion and was killed in the battle of Kennesaw Mt., June 23, 183.  She was united in marriage to Wesley Crawley Nov 4, 1868.  To them was born three children, Mrs. Stella Grimes of Kokomo, Ind; Ralph Crawley of this city and one child, who die din infancy.  Mr Crawley died in Sept 1893. She as married to Jacob Merkle, Jan 6, 1899.  He departed this life in April 1904.

About 50 years ago she united with the Missionary Baptist Church of Greencastle, later transferring her membership to the Bethel ME Church, five miles south of town.  In later years she moved to Locust Street Church and finally to Maple Chapel just a few weeks ago.

She passed on into the greater life from the home of her son, Ralph Crawley, following a brief illness of pneumonia, Dec 28, 1915 at the age of 72 years. She leaves two children, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, besides many friends to feel her loss.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. OL Jones, assisted by Rev. B.D. Beck, were held in the Maple Chapel Church. Burial at Bethel Cemetery east of Putnamville.   --- kbz
