Kent Bruce Mecum, 87, of Greencastle, died Wednesday Nov 8. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he graduated from Shortridge HS in Indianapolis in 1948 and Butler University in 1952. He received master and doctoral degrees from Indiana University. While serving in the Army he met his wife Maria in Panama and they were married in 1955. They lived in Evansville, Bloomington and settled in Greencastle where Kent was a professor of romance languages at DePauw University. He retired in 1992 to care for his wife, Maria. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, son George, parents Ernest James and Sarah Catharine Mecum and brother, Craig. He is survived by three children: Robert (Jessica); Linda (Sam) and Fred (Julie); sister, Ernestine Wittig and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 pm.
