MARTIN, Sydney Ellen

Source: San Bernardino (Calif) County Sun Sat 4 Jan 1913 p 4

Miss Winifred Martin of The Sun staff left yesterday noon on the California limited for Cloverdale, Indiana in response to a message announcing the death of her mother, Mrs. Sydney Ellen Martin of that place.  While Mrs. Martin had been in ill health for some months, her death nevertheless came as a severe shock to the members of her family here and the many friends also.  Mrs. Martin was the wife of Capt. Henry B. Martin and they made their home in San Bernardino from 1898-1902, winning a large circle of friends during their residence here.  Beside her husband, Mrs. Martin leaves a family of six children, Miss Winifred Martin and Ernest Martin of San Bernardino, Mrs. Merton E. Brimmer of Rialto, Edwin G. Martin of Tulare County, Harry B and Niles H Martin of Indiana besides a number of grandchildren.  Mrs. Martin was near 70 years of age and always had enjoyed good health until within the past year. She was born within a mile of the home in which she died.  She was the only daughter of Thomas Nelson Hart one of the early pioneers who went on his wedding journey from KY into the then wilderness of Indiana to make a home for his bride and who helped found the town and who gave liberally to encourage churches and schools in the new country.
