Lebanon, Ind June 19 – Mrs. Catherine S. Malan, wife of Dr. Clement T. Malan, former state superintendent of public instruction and Boone County superintendent of schools, died today at Witham Hospital. She had been in ill health since last February. The Malans have lived here since 1946. She was known over the state for her activities in the interest of young people and in church and civic work. She was president of the Indianapolis branch of Legislative Assembly an organization of wives of legislators and state officials from June 1945 to June 1947. Mrs. Malan worked with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Terre Haute and Indianapolis 12 years and was a member of the Faculty Wives Club at Indiana State Teachers’ College, Terre Haute. She was a member of Indianapolis Third Christian Church. She taught in both grade and high schools of Russellville, Putnam County. She married Dr. Malan in 1907. Survivors besides the husband include a son, Clement Vincent Malan, Indianapolis. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Wolff, pastor of Central Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Russellville, Putnam County. – kbz
