LYBYER, Dr. Paul Carroll

Dr. Paul Carroll Lybyer, age 52 years, a former resident of Putnam County died Saturday evening at 6:30 o’clock at Ogdensburg, NY following an extended illness. Dr. Lyberger was born in Putnamville Jan 11, 1886. He studied in the Brazil schools and at Purdue and Indiana Universities. From 1903 to 1906 he studied at Robert College, Constantinople, Turkey, where his brother, Albert was a professor of mathematics. He was graduated from the medical school at Indiana University and during the Great War he was a physician on the British ships, which plied to South America, India and Burma. After practicing medicine in Chicago, Cleveland and New York, he entered the service of the state of NY in 1923 as a specialist in mental disease. For the past 11 years he has been a physician in the St. Lawrence State Hospital at Ogdensburg. Dr. Lybyer was a 32rd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner of the Murat Temple of Indianapolis. He underwent in 1935 a serious abdominal operation from which he never fully recovered. He was dangerously ill for 3 months before his death Saturday evening. Survivors are the widow, formerly Miss Harriet Somers of Sharon, Conn a daughter, Jennie Layman Lybyer, age 11 years; 2 brothers, Dr. Albert Howe Lybyer now professor of history in the University of Illinois and Daniel Henry Lybyer of Putnamville. Funeral services will be held Wed afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Putnamville Methodist Church, Dr. Lybyer will be buried in the cemetery at Putnamville beside his great grandfather, John Philip Layman, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gallatin Layman and his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Salem Henry Lybyer.
