LOGAN, Eliza Evans

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.  Eliza Jane Evans was born near Knoxville, Tennessee, February 12, 1820. When she was 12 years of age she moved with her parents to Putnam County, Indiana. In 1844 she again moved westward and settle din Davis County, Iowa. The same year, 1844, she was united in marriage to Arthur Logan, with whom she lived in happy wedlock until February 1865 when Mr. Logan passed away.  In 1845 Mr. and Mrs. Logan settled in Wapello County, Iowa and in 1852 removed to Apanoose County in the same state. TO them were born 11 children, 7 of whom, 3 sons and 4 daughters WB Logan of Crydon, Iowa; SL an RC Logan of Smith Center and Mrs. Perry Stafford, Mrs. FM May and Mrs. JC Godale (?) of Smith Centre and Mrs. Lizzie Coats of Franklin, Nebraska were with their mother during her long illness. The others have preceded their mother into the World beyond. In the fall of 1878 Mrs. Logan came to Smith county to which place most of her children had preceded her. Here she lived until the time of her death, Jan 4, 1908, aged 87 years, 10 months 20 days. She leaves 7 children, 40 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her loss. In early life, when about 13 Mrs. Logan dedicated her life to the service of God, and united with the Presbyterian church. Her Christian life and conduct were exemplary, her faith and trust in her Savior strong and even to the end of her long life her chief joy was to be present in the sanctuary at the hour of worship. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon Jan 5, 1908 at 2 o’clock in the Presbyterian Church of which denomination she had been a member for more than 75 years.  The pastor, Rev. RH MacCullough conducting the services, after which a large concourse of relative and friends followed the remains to Fairview cemetery to pay their last respects to one whom we all loved for her kindness, her thoughtfulness and her Christian life…RHM
